David Duane Frost

Former Orient resident David Duane Frost died July 3 at Sarah House in Santa Barbara, Calif., following a long illness, just three days after his 86th birthday.

He was born June 30, 1925, to the Rev. Edward L. and Helen (Goodenough) Frost. He played professional baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers before serving in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces during World War II and participating in many invasions in New Guinea, the East Indies, the Philippines and Okinawa.

He graduated from Syracuse University in 1948, and moved in 1979 from New York to Santa Barbara, where he operated a bookkeeping and accounting service for many years.

Mr. Frost was a member of the American Legion, Empire Council No. 128, Navy League of the United States and the New York Poetry Forum, where he was a nationally recognized poet.

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Frost of Riverhead and Amy Wippert of Greenport. Funeral arrangements are private.
