Summer is the perfect time to take your exercise routine outdoors. Biking, jogging and walking our local roads are all great ways to stay healthy, just as long as it is done safely. I’ve been trying to walk and bike at different times of the day and, so far, I find that early in the morning is my favorite. I’ve seen others along the route who seem to agree!

My daughter Nicole Sinning did an internship this past spring with Good Housekeeping magazine during her last semester at Hofstra University. She worked in Manhattan at the magazine’s Research Institute, testing products to be considered for the Good Housekeeping Seal and is pictured testing a laptop on page 115 in the August issue of GH.

Vacation Bible school for children entering first through sixth grades will be held at St. Patrick Church the week of July 25-29, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. This summer’s theme is “Pandamania” and it promises to be a fun-filled week. The fee is $35 per child. Call 765-3442 for registration information.

Belated happy birthday to Mary Dewey, who celebrated July 19, and to mother and son Cheryl Fishman and Brian Grattan Jr., who shared their special day on the 20th. Other July birthdays include Lori Cariello on the 21st, Dave Conrad on the 25th, Joanne Hiney on the 26th and Jason Mann on the 27th.

Every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., everyone’s invited to the Summer Showcase Concert Series at Silversmith’s Corner on Main Road in Southold. Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks will be featured July 27. Bring a chair and enjoy a fun summer evening.

The Southold Historical Society will sponsor noted chamber ensemble Canta Libre on Saturday, July 23, at 6 p.m. at Horton Point Lighthouse. Adult tickets are $15; children under 12 are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the door. In case of rain, the performance will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Southold.

Speaking of the Presbyterian church, Southold Presbyterian Women will hold their monthly sale Saturday, July 30, 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, at the historic barn on Wells Avenue behind Bank of America. Merchandise includes crystal, glassware, china, Harry Potter games, household, collectibles, jewelry and much more. All proceeds go to East End charities.
