Joseph J. Potorski

Former longtime Southold resident Joseph J. Potorski passed away Sunday, July 3, at the St. Andrews Estates retirement community in Boca Raton, Fla., at the age of 99.

Joe was born in Staten Island, N.Y., on July 29, 1911, to Pauline (Kraszewska) and Wadislaw Potorski. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After the war, he completed his Bachelor’s degree at New York University, and his Master’s at Columbia University. He worked in the health care field, primarily as a Hospital Administrator, and in the Department of Health Services for Suffolk County and New York State.

Joe greatly enjoyed playing golf at Island’s End Golf Club, where he played his last game of golf at 90, and camping and hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor; daughter Nancy Krakowka of Jamesport; sons Joseph of Farmingdale, N.Y., and Peter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four grandchildren: Corinne, of Fort Lauderdale, James, of Manhattan, Christopher, of Mattituck, and Joshua Scholtz of Aquebogue.

Funeral arrangements will be private.
