Blotter: Man punches out window in bar; arrest made after break-in

An East Hampton man who was asked to leave a Greenport bar at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday punched in a plate glass window at the front of the bar, according to Southold Town Police.

Police said that Matthew S.S. King, 24, broke the window with his fist and then fled on foot, but was stopped by the bar’s employees until police arrived.

Mr. King was charged with one count of criminal mischief in the third degree, a Class E felony. He was held for a morning arraignment, where he was released without bail. Police said the broken window was valued at $700.

• A  homeless man was arrested early on the morning of July 22, after employees at a country store in East Marion discovered at about 5 a.m. that their store had been broken into, according to Southold Town Police.

Police said that the break-in was caught on video surveillance, and an officer in patrol later spotted a man matching the description from the video in the vicinity of Horton’s Lane in Southold.

The suspect, John F. Greene, 42, had the proceeds of the burglary in his possession at the time of his arrest, according to police.

Police said Mr. Greene was also linked to another break-in on July 21 at a flower shop in Peconic. He was charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree and held overnight for arraignment.
