Worth Noting: Take a seat for OHS

This year, Oysterponds Historical Society challenged 17 of its community’s most celebrated and recognized artists and architects to create unique chairs — constructed or deconstructed — to be auctioned at the annual OHS summer benefit on Saturday, Aug. 6.
This Saturday, July 30, you can preview the inventive and unusual ways they responded to this challenge when the chairs go on display at Webb House on Village Lane from 4 to 6 p.m.

The variety of approaches taken and materials used is wide, ranging from wooden pieces like “Orient Adirondack Chair” crafted by Dominick DiLorenzo of walnut and tulip wood, to steel constructions such as Lars Westvind’s “Iron Man Chair,” to a 338-pound boulder contributed by architect Peter Marren.

Other contributing artists and architects are Taylor Aikin, Chris Astley, Hideaki Ariizumi, Barbara Bloom, Alan Bull, Gulsen Calik, Kinga Crary, Belmont Freeman Jr., Richard Gluckman, Sylvia Newman, Yan Rieger, Bill Ryall, Joel Sanders and Louis Yoh, along with the mysterious Sue Nommey and collaborator Barr Knuckles.
