‘A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken.” As we welcome August, make the most of every moment.

North Fork Kids will present a Missoula Children’s Theater production of “Alice in Wonderland” this Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Mattituck High School auditorium. Come watch the magic of children performing on stage.

If you’d rather be outdoors with your family why not plan to attend an outdoor movie? Mattituck-Cutchogue Elementary PTA is hosting an outdoor movie night fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 11, presenting “Rio” (rated G) at 7 p.m. at Strawberry Fields in Mattituck. The cost is $4 per person; kids 4 under are free. Bring your own blankets and chairs. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to PTA-sponsored school programs. Community/business sponsorships are also available at the silver ($50) and gold ($100) level. Email [email protected] to volunteer, ask questions or become an event sponsor.

Belated happy sixth anniversary to former Mattituck/Southold residents Carolyn (Brannon) and David Kramkowski on July 30. The happy couple currently resides in St. Louis, Mo. Carolyn was proud to represent the St. Louis Music Teachers, singing the national anthem at a Cardinals game this past week. You can see them perform on YouTube. This was her second year singing with the group. Carolyn is director of instrumental music at Shaw Visual and Performing Arts Elementary School. Great job!

Also celebrating anniversaries this week are Ray and Diane Radigan on the 8th and Kay and Mark Rolle on the 9th.

Blowing out birthday candles this week are Dierdre Zoder on the 4th; Jon Bressler on the 5th; Rita Murphy and Jaimie MacDonald on the 7th; Darren Hinderliter and Eric Van Dyne on the 8th; Amy Dries (who turns 18) and Kristen Steele on the 9th; and Connor Harrigan and Bev Wowak on the 10th.

Speaking of Bev Wowak, she wants to remind everyone participating in the library’s Summer Adult Reading Club to bring in their reader cards, pick up new cards and fill out raffle tickets.

Reminder: Children who plan to participate in school athletics this fall must have a physical and an athletic medical clearance form on file in the nurse’s office at the high school. For details about when practices begin, visit
