Drug task force, Southold Police arrests two following early morning raid in Greenport

Following up on reports of drug sales at a house on Sandy Beach Road in Greenport, Southold Police and the East End Drug Task Force arrested two men on a number of felony charges following an early morning raid Friday, police said.

Police report recovering a substantial amount of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash. The Suffolk County Police emergency unit and the Suffolk Sheriff’s canine squad took part in the raid.

David Carey, 42, was held without bail following his arraignment in Southold Justice Court on two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and one count of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Police said Mr. Carey, a convicted felon still under parole supervision, was found in possession of a shotgun. As a felon he cannot legally own firearms and so also faces one count of criminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree, police said.

The second suspect, John Capuano, 63, was also charged with two felony counts of criminal possession and one count of drup paraphernalia and held on $20,000 bail.

Police did not release their places of residence.
