Health Beat: Free chiropractic care for returning vets

• Five local chiropractors are offering complimentary chiropractic care for returning veterans. Drs. Steven Chierchie, Richard Hall and David Robinson, of Southold, and Drs. James Hinsch and Kristina Niemynski of Mattituck are cooperating with the Healing Hands 4 Heroes program, initially introduced at the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations in Arizona. The doctors will offer up to 60 days of care to veterans retuning from Iraq or Afghanistan.

“Many returning veterans have spinal problems as a result of their service, or have exacerbations of conditions that existed before their service,” a joint press release stated. “They deserve our help and we’re honored to offer it.” Call individual practitioners for appointments: Dr. Chierchie, 765-5151; Dr. Hall, 765-9520; Dr. Robinson, 765-1191; Dr. Hinsch, 298-5333; Dr. Niemynski, 298-5253.

• The East End Brain Support Group will meet at The Piping Plover in Feather Hill, Southold, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. Call Jenny at 655-9660,

• Dr. Richard Hall, who maintains a chiropractic office in Feather Hill, Southold, will host a free discussion at his office Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. for parents concerned about pain, posture, scoliosis, sports injuries and strengthening children’s immune systems. Call 765-9520.

• Gloria Saavedra has been named Peconic Landing’s employee of the month for August. Originally from Colombia, she started there in 2010 as a prep cook and moved quickly to a line cook’s position as she demonstrated her abilities, according to spokeswoman Paula Quintieri. She has done “outstanding” work and consistently demonstrated an eagerness to be an responsible and dependable employee, Ms. Quintieri said, adding. “As a team player, [she] jumps right in with a positive attitude.”  Ms. Saavedra has lived on Long Island for 16 years and worked in local restaurants for 11 years before coming to Peconic Landing.
