Police: Wrong-way driver arrested for DWI in Cutchogue

A Peconic man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge Thursday, after police received a call of a vehicle driving the wrong way in oncoming traffic on Depot Lane in Cutchogue, authorities said.

When Southold Town Police stopped John Moore, 43, about 3:30 a.m., they said that he had an open beer can in his car and alcohol on his breath. He was taken to headquarters and charged with DWI, an open container violation and several other vehicle and traffic violations, and  was held for a morning arraignment, according to police reports. Police also said that Mr. Moore’s vehicle was seized due to a prior DWI conviction.

• Donald D. Franklin, 50, of Islip Terrace was arrested on DWI charge just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, after he was stopped for failing to maintain his lane of travel on Route 48 in Southold. Town police said that Mr. Franklin was taken to headquarters, processed, and held overnight for arraignment.
