Lloyd V. Day

Lloyd V. Day died Aug. 21 at Peconic Landing in Greenport. He was 93.

He was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Brooklyn to Thomas and Grace (Vaughn) Day. He attended high school and college, and he married Marjorie O’Connor on Dec. 15, 1951, at Hanson Place Central United Methodist Church in Brooklyn.

Mr. Day served in the U.S. Army for two years, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He received the American Defense Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was an active and popular member of the Committee for Negro Affairs in Mount Vernon, N.Y., where the family lived before moving to their summer home in Sag Harbor. There he belonged to the Sag Harbor Hills Association.

Tennis was his passion, and he loved jazz and classical music. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a very loving and caring grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, of Greenport; his children, Christopher, of California, and Elizabeth, of Greenport; and his grandsons, Marcus, of California, and Jamal, of Bridgehampton.

A memorial service will take place Friday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Interment with military honors will be at Calverton National Cemetery, with the Revs. Petero Sabune and Shawn Williams officiating.
