Former Mattituck resident William P. Smith of Westhampton died Aug. 25 at Westhampton Care Center. He was 76.
He was born Jan. 21, 1935, in Manhattan to Arthur and Anne Smith, and was the grandson of Alfred E. Smith, four-time governor of New York.
Mr. Smith graduated from Villanova University in Radnor Township, Pa., and worked as an advertising salesman.
According to family members, he enjoyed cooking, gardening and fishing.
Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, in 1993, he is survived by his son, Kevin, of Florida; his daughters, Geraldine Zuhoski and Laura Bozsnyak, both of Cutchogue; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A Mass was celebrated Aug. 27 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck, Father Joseph Staudt officiating. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue. Arrangements were handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
