Pair of Mattituck men charged with DWI over holiday weekend

A Mattituck man was charged with aggravated DWI, resisting arrest and fleeing from police after he attempted to run from police officers who were attempting to stop him for failing to maintain his lane of travel.

Police said that Juan Jose Giron-Gatica, 30, was followed from the Old Mill Inn to West Mills Road in Mattituck just after midnight on Tuesday morning, after which he jumped out of his car and attempted to flee to his residence on foot, but was grabbed by an officer in pursuit. Mr. Giron-Gatica continued to struggle with officers, who used a Taser on him and took him into custody.

He was taken to headquarters and held for arraignment

In an unrelated incident, a Mattituck man who was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Breakwater Road in Mattituck was charged with DWI Monday evening.

Police said that Michael C. Dougherty, 53, was arrested, taken to headquarters and held for a morning arraignment.
