Southold-Peconic: Southold Fire Department’s 125th anniversary celebration Sept. 17

Summer may be over as far as the tourist season goes, but for those of us who live here, it is a favorite time of year. We can take back our favorite beaches, left-hand turns are possible during the week and the farm stands are filled with delicious produce. Cooler days and evenings add to the appeal of the season, making it even more enjoyable.

Southold school fall athletes have been practicing diligently and are ready for action. Check sectionxi.org for schedules.

Thanks to a grant from the Great Hudson Heritage Network, two early portraits in Southold Historical Society’s permanent collection will be conserved. The portraits of Esther Albertson Wells and Joseph Albert Wells are part of the only known group of intact portraits of a single North Fork family.
