Police arrest shotgun-wielding man in Greenport

With the help of the department’s canine unit, Southold police arrested a 24-year-old man who pulled out a shotgun at a Greenport residence early Saturday morning and reportedly told a woman there, “I’m going to kill you,” according to police reports.

Paul A. Reinckens of Hummel Ave, Southold went to the First Street address to confront an ex-girlfriend, police said.

Police said Mr. Reinckens fled after making the threat and was later found by the department’s police dog in a field behind his home. The canine unit discovered the  weapon in a wooded area off 9th Street in Greenport, according to reports. Four other long guns and a pistol found at Mr. Reinckens home were taken for safe keeping, said police.

He faces charges of second-degree menacing and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
