Donald Andrew Buckley

Donald Andrew Buckley of Mattituck died on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. He was 85 years old.

He was born on November 7, 1925, in Woodhaven, New York, to Frank and Sybil (née Mark) Buckley. A graduate of Valley Stream High School and Adelphi University, he served in the United States Air Force during World War II and Korea and was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon and the Victor Medal.

As a young man, he was a counselor at Pinecrest Dunes, where he met his wife-to-be, Miriam. On June 6, 1953, they were married, and together they have made their home in Mattituck for the past 45 years. He had also resided previously in Lynbrook, Laurel and Jamesport.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Buckley was an engineer with New York Telephone Company. In the community, he was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck and the Mattituck Lions Club, of which he was a former treasurer.

Predeceased by a daughter, Janet Anne VanTuyl, on September 19, 1994, he leaves his wife, Miriam, and a granddaughter, Brianna VanTuyl of Greenport. He was also predeceased by a twin brother, Kenneth Buckley.

The family received friends on Thursday, September 22, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Graveside services were held at the Cutchogue Cemetery by Reverend Nils Blatz, with military honors by the United States Air Force.
