Note from the Publisher

Our mission was very simple: Create an award-winning community newspaper to serve northeastern Brookhaven, modeled after our other well-established weekly flags — The Suffolk Times, Riverhead News-Review and The Shelter Island Reporter.

The North Shore Sun launched in September 2002. In more than nine years of publishing the Sun in print and online we achieved many of our goals. We covered Wading River to Port Jefferson with our style of hard-hitting local news, which earned the newspaper recognition as the best weekly in New York State twice since 2006.

But in December of last year we opted to stop publishing the print version of The North Shore Sun. And Northshoresun.com will publish its final story this Friday.

The site will fold as we look to bolster our editorial staff here on the North Fork. Each Sun staff member will assume a new role working on the Times/Review Newsgroup’s four other publications — The Suffolk Times, Riverhead News-Review, The Shelter Island Reporter and the Long Island Wine Press — in print and online.

For decades we have been the go-to source for all your local news in print. And in the past year we have made dramatic changes in the way we deliver the news to you online.

Through our TimesReview.com websites, we have found a way to give you more of the local news you desire, but on a daily basis. And you, our readers, have responded. In the past year, traffic to our websites has nearly tripled.

This restructuring of our newsroom will give readers even more reason to visit our sites throughout each and every day. We thank you for your continued readership, which has made us the number one source for North Fork news, a role in the community that we look forward to continuing for generations to come.
