Today in sports: Porters face tough task against Mount Sinai

GARRET MEADE FILE PHOTO | In the Porters' win last week over Stony Brook, Ryan Malone scored two touchdowns.

After failing to score a point in their first two games, the Greenport Porters’ offense erupted for 41 last Friday in a win over The Stony Brook School.

Now the Porters face a much greater challenge when the Mount Sinai Mustangs visit Greenport for a 2 p.m. Division IV game today. The Mustangs (2-1) come into the game off a 35-6 win over Hampton Bays. The only loss for the Mustangs came in Week 2 against John Glenn, the defending Class IV Long Island champions.

The Mustangs feature a versatile rushing attack and can throw the ball behind the tandem of quarterback Austin Kay and receiver Patrick Hogan. The two have connected for a touchdown in each game this season so far.

Greenport will look to build off its success on the ground last week led by Tom Filipowski, who scored four touchdowns against Stony Brook. Quarterback Ryan Malone scored twice.

When the teams met last year Mount Sinai won 41-13.
