Janis Brown Hulse

Lifelong East Marion resident Janis Brown Hulse died Oct. 17 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She was 84.

Born Oct. 19, 1926, in Greenport to Edna (Ankers) and Atwood Halsey Brown, she attended East Marion Elementary School and Greenport High School. She married Robert M. Hulse on June 6, 1948, in East Marion and was a clerk at the East Marion post office.

Ms. Hulse was a member of East Marion Community Church and participated in Southold Town’s senior adult day care program Katinka House.

Family members said she loved going to yard sales and enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking and gardening.
Predeceased by her husband in 1997, Ms. Hulse is survived by her children, Jeffrey, of Miller Place and Carol Kalin of Greenport; her brother, Garrison Brown of Eastville, Va.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Quintana, in 2002.

Visiting hours are set for Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A service will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. at East Marion Community Church, the Rev. Clyde Mellinger officiating. Interment will take place Friday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at Calverton National Cemetery.
