If you’re in Greenport Village and love sushi, Sunday will be your last chance to eat it at Sasuke as owner Frank Purita moves to convert his new sushi eatery to a restaurant serving Italian, French and Belgian food.
Rumors were rife in the village that Mr. Purita was giving up the restaurant business he had fought for months to open on Main Street, adjacent to his D’Latte cappuccino, gelato and pastry business. But that’s not the case, he insisted on Saturday.
All is fine with his permits from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the State Liquor Authority, he said. He simply decided to take the restaurant in a new direction, he said.
It will lose the Sasuke name and may operate under the original D’Latte banner or he may add a new name for that part of his operation, he said.
“I’m a chef,” Mr. Purita said in a telephone interview Saturday.
He plans to use local ingredients and to serve local beers, he said. His restaurant is only steps from the Greenport Brewing Company on Carpenter Street.
By next weekend, look for menu that will include Italian mussels with coconut milk, chardonnay with goat cheese and herbs and similar items, Mr. Purita said.
