‘Amazing’ Greenport teen honored at Hispanic youth event

Greenport senior Raphael Gonzalez was honored by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy at a ceremony in Patchogue Friday night as runner up in the Diamond That Shine competition for Hispanic youths with the promise of becoming future leaders.

The celebration is part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Raphael was described by his principal, Len Skuggevik, as “an amazing young man” who is an excellent student involved in both school activities and community service.

Raphael is taking advanced placement classes in college calculus and physics and hopes to enter college next September to study architecture.
