Southold may triple the size of its dog park behind the Peconic Recreation Center on Peconic Lane.

The project, which would cost approximately $13,000, would include an area for large dogs and an area for small dogs.

The area for small dogs would be created by doubling the size of the existing dog park, and a new area would be fenced in for larger dogs.

Southold Town officials are deciding whether the project can be paid for with Parks & Recreation funds.

Town Supervisor Scott Russell said that he would like to work with North Fork School For Dogs owner Dawn Bennett on a fundraising effort to make improvements at the park, including landscaping and benches.

Ms. Bennett circulated a petition earlier this year asking the town to build a bigger dog park.
