Health Beat: Nov. 11 blood drive at ELIH

• Eastern Long Island Hospital will host a community blood drive Friday, Nov. 11, 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the conference room. Call 477-5100.

• Mattituck-Laurel Library will host an eight week series of low-impact dance aerobics classes with instructor Laurie Short on Mondays at 9 a.m., beginning Nov. 14, with no class on Dec. 26. Bring a mat, a pair of 3- to 5-pound dumbbells and a water bottle. The fee doe the series is $40 for Mattituck and Laurel residents and $45 for out-of-district participants. Call 298-4134.

• As part of the senior wellness education series, Southold Town’s Human Services and Eastern Long Island Hospital will present ‘How to Break the Worry Habit’ on Friday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m.-noon, at the town senior center in Mattituck. The series is funded by Long Island Home through a grant from the New York State Office of Mental Health. For transportation, call 298-4460.

• Violet Reed, a member of the housekeeping team at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, has been named November’s employee of the month. Ms. Reed moved to the North Fork as a child and will celebrate 28 years of employment at San Simeon this month. She has worked as a certified nurse’s aide there and currently works in the facility’s laundry.

“While I liked helping residents when I was a CNA, I mostly enjoy the peacefulness of working in the laundry,” Ms. Reed said, noting that she’s still able to help residents “from behind the scenes.”
