Nita H. Ireland

Nita H. Ireland of Aquebogue died Oct. 29 at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Greenport. She was 82.

She was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Brooklyn to Ingrid (Thiedeman) and Halvard Randers Heimer and graduated from Amityville High School in 1947.

Before marrying Rufus J. Ireland III in 1952, she attended business school in New York City and worked as a model and at J. Walter Thompson ad agency. She later worked for almost 30 years at South Oaks Hospital in Amityville, retiring as director of admissions. She moved from Amityville to Aquebogue in 2003.

Family members said she loved to read and enjoyed cooking and baking Norwegian cookies for family and friends.

Predeceased in 2008 by her former husband and her brother, Randers Heimer, Ms. Ireland is survived by her daughter, Randers Joan Ireland of Greenport.

Arrangements were handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Interment was at Amityville Cemetery.
