Anne Kaelin Hollinger

Anne was born to Katherine and Frederick W. Kaelin on July 7, 1937, in Greenport. She was their first child, followed by sister, Barbara O’Neill (husband, James), and then brother, Frederick W. Kaelin Jr. (wife, Peggy). Growing up on Alvah’s Lane in Cutchogue she claimed it “never rained in Cutchogue”! This, of course, was confirmed with the sign on New Suffolk Avenue — “Cutchogue: Sunniest place in New York State” — of recent years.

On November 3, 2011, with her beloved husband of 47 years, Walter P. Hollinger, and their five children surrounding her, she went home to God. A beloved wife and sister, loving mother of Ellen Langford (husband, Christopher) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Dr. Walter A. Hollinger of West Greenwich, R.I.; Catherine Lenski (husband, Joe) of Pottersville, N.J.; John C. Hollinger (wife, Judy) of Alpharetta, Ga.; Marie Short (husband, Jeff) of West Orange, N.J.; and late daughter, Susan Jane Hollinger.

Adored by her grandchildren James, Marie, David, Michael, Julia, Andrew, Caroline and Jane, and 11 nieces and nephews, she took delight in every story, picture, event they shared with her. She kept in touch sending cards for cousins’ birthdays, phoning family matriarchs and using Facebook almost daily to share her love, wit and zest for life with family and friends.

Anne was an avid bridge player and N.Y. Yankees fan. A longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, she was active in many parish projects. She received her B.A. degree at the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., and her M.A. degree at St. John’s University in Queens, N.Y. Starting her career teaching in Babylon, N.Y., she became a substitute teacher for the Mahwah, N.J., public schools after raising her children.

To think of Anne is to think “joyful.” This is her enduring gift to all of us.

Visitation was held Monday in Ramsey, N.J. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, with interment at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.

If desired, donations may be made in Anne’s name to the Multiple Myeloma Research Fund, 383 Main Ave., 5th floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
