Cutchogue-New Suffolk: New Suffolk School’s Avon fundraiser ongoing through Nov. 21

As the nights grow longer and the temperature drops our roads become less traveled. Fall foliage and moderate temperatures are making for a beautiful North Fork autumn. Christmas tree signs are starting to pop up on the North Road, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. Local farms — Krupski’s, Wickham’s, Sang Lee and Scott’s Family Farm — are open offering farm-fresh broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and squash, plus seasonal decorations and more. Shop local farm stands and markets, buy local wine and beer, shop local merchants for your gifts and use local service companies. Together we can be the answer to the prayer for our neighbors’ prosperity. Think globally and act locally and enjoy the 2011 holiday season!

Happy birthday to Our Lady of Mercy first-grade teacher Mrs. Hunt!

The New Suffolk School’s Avon fundraiser continues through Nov. 21. Anyone interested in purchasing products can contact Brooke Dailey at 734-8255 or [email protected]. The school will receive 30 percent of all Avon bath, fragrance, cosmetic and moisturizer sales.

Drivers beware: November is deer mating season. Bucks chasing does is the cause of many deer-car collisions. When you see a deer, keep in mind that there’s most likely another one to follow. Use high beams at night if there’s no oncoming traffic and be on alert during the evening and early-morning hours.

The Mattituck-Cutchogue Teachers Association invites you to join in the sixth annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on Thursday, Nov. 24, at 9 a.m. at Mattituck High School. Entry forms are available at mufsd.com

You may have seen your local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts outside the locations you frequent most. Be prepared, for in the weeks to come they’ll be offering you the chance to purchase Christmas wreaths as well as nuts and chocolate to bring your hostess or offer your guests.
