Lifelong Mattituck resident Ernest E. Wilsberg died Nov. 14 at the age of 90.
Born in Greenport on Sept. 26, 1921, to Ernest and Olga Wilsberg, he graduated from Mattituck High School and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, and served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
Mr. Wilsberg married Barbara Haas on April 26, 1952. With his brother, Harold, he was an owner and executive of Mattituck Plumbing & Eckert Oil for 45 years.
He was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church, Mattituck, serving as chairman for the building of the church and parsonage. He also belonged to the Mattituck Lions Club and Mattituck Chamber of Commerce and, according to family, he was a devoted NASCAR member.
Mr. Wilsberg is survived by his wife; three children, Paul and James, both of Mattituck, and Janet Engle of Florida; his brother, of Mattituck, and sister, Doris Jenkins of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, the Rev. George Summers officiating. Interment will be at New Bethany Cemetery in Mattituck.
