Boys Basketball: Mattituck doomed by slow start in Babylon

Mattituck got off to a slow start and could not recover as its dropped its Suffolk County League VII boys basketball opener, 47-31, to host Babylon on Friday night.

Senior guard Connor Eagan led the Tuckers (1-2, 0-1) with 13 points. Nahari Jenkins paced Babylon (3-1, 1-0) with 14 points.

The Tuckers fell behind after the first quarter, 9-3, as junior forward Ryan Finger sank their only field goal, a three-point shot with 2 minutes 55 seconds remaining.

Senior forward Tom Sledjeski, Mattituck’s second-leading scorer, sat out the game with a sprained ankle.

Mattituck next hosts Greenport at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
