Four players scored in double-figures as part of a balanced attack for Mattituck Thursday night in a 58-34 home victory over McGann-Mercy.

The Tuckers (4-4, 2-1 League VII) snapped a two-game skid thanks to an electric first quarter that saw them race out to a 20-3 lead. The Tuckers shot 10 of 16 from the field while holding Mercy without a field goal. The Monarchs ended the opening quarter with more turnovers (10) than field goal attempts (8).

Mattituck built the lead to as high as 30 after three quarters. With most of Mattituck’s starters on the bench, Mercy (4-5, 0-3 League VII) closed the gap in the fourth quarter by scoring the first nine points. Mattituck went the first 6 minutes of the fourth without a point.

Juniors Alexa Orlando and Allie Wilcenski both recorded double-doubles for Mattituck. Wilcenski led the team with 14 points and she grabbed 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double. Orlando added 10 points and 10 rebounds along with four assists and two steals.

Junior Lauren Guja scored 11 with seven rebounds and sophomore Shannon Dwyer added 10 points, six of which came in the first quarter.

For Mercy, the offense centered around sophomore Cari Gehring. With seniors Karlin McIntyre and Brie Bieber on the bench for the first half due to a coach’s decision, Gehring carried the load with 21 points. Her career high is 24 against Newfield Dec. 27. Gehring scored the team’s first seven points before Anna Crowley hit a 3-pointer from the corner late in the second quarter.
