Southold Police Blotter: Window smashed at Mattituck Laundry

• Someone broke into the Mattituck Laundry on Route 25 at 12:45 a.m. Jan. 26, attempted to break through a wall and smashed the front window and the door to the office, according to police reports. Police said the intruder likely entered the building by breaking a window. The laundry’s security company reportedly called Riverhead police at 12:25 a.m., but no one responded and Southold police were not notified until 90 minutes later. Police said nothing was stolen. Detectives are investigating.

• A resident of North Bayview Road, Southold, reported on Jan. 25 that someone entered his car while it was parked in his driveway overnight, stole two $1 bills, spit in the center console and left traces of marijuana on the front seat.

• A Greenport woman who works in the village reported on Jan. 26 and again on Jan. 28 that someone deflated her car’s tires while it was parked in a Main Street parking lot. The victim said that had happened at least 10 times over the last several months. Police have asked a nearby bank for its surveillance camera footage.

• An employee of a Main Road, Southold, business reported Jan. 28 that when she arrived at the shop in the morning, the door was open and $300 in cash had been taken from a desk drawer.

Those named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
