Those concerned the sale of Magic Fountain in Mattituck will spell the end of a local favorite need not worry.

Magic Fountain, the popular Main Road ice cream shop, is currently on the market for $695,000 with Prudential Real Estate in Mattituck, but the current owner said whomever he sells to will keep the brand alive.

“Everything’s going to stay exactly the way it is, down to the recipes,” said owner Choudry Ali. “It’s written into the lease and into the contract.”

He said he recently renewed a 25-year lease with building owner Jim Kreh and will not stand to have the business stray from the model its reputation stands on.

“The last five years, this place has become my baby, so I’m going to make sure whoever buys it runs it the same way,” he said.

Mr. Ali and his wife Journey will be moving to St. George, Utah, where they already own a vacation home.

“We love Mattituck and the North Fork,” he said. “My wife grew up here. We’re just ready for a change.”

The couple started talking about the possible move last year and decided about a month ago to go for it. In St. George, they hope to open a new Magic Fountain where they will continue to surprise customers by offering unique flavors like nutty rose, goat cheese and chocolate chili.
