Mattituck-Laurel

In the middle of February, it’s nice to have a day that makes us stop and say “I love you” to those who mean the most to us. Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Mattituck High School Musical Theater Company will perform “Leader of the Pack” Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-11, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. The songs are familiar and fun and advisers Anne Gilvarry and Jacob Fowle have been rehearsing the cast for weeks. Special thanks go to school nurse Linda Diorio, who has helped all the players with their costumes. This promises to be a great evening out, so head down to the high school auditorium and support our thespians.

Coaches vs. Cancer is an annual event that combines athletics with a good cause. The girls’ JV basketball game begins at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity plays at 6:15. Raffles and a bake sale will make the games even more exciting so come down and try your luck while supporting the fight against this disease.

Former North Fork residents Adrienne and Fred Weber of Stallings, N.C., send birthday greetings to their grandchildren Danielle Stepnoski and Christopher Caprise, MHS seniors who will turn 18 a few days apart. Christopher celebrates on the 14th and Danielle on the 16th. The Webers also send belated birthday greetings to granddaughter Kellie Stepnoski, who turned 16 Feb. 1.

Mattituck-Laurel Library will present “Egyptian Expedition” for grades 3-6 from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. Join artist Joyce Raimondo to discover the stories behind mummies and create animal-person forms using self-hardening clay. Call 298-4134 to register.

Birthday balloons will fly over the homes of the following folks this week. Happy birthday to Paul Wilsberg on the 10th; Billy Young and Adrianna Lawson on the 12th; Emily Mincieli and Taylor Montgomery on the 13th; and David Martinez and Rebekah Conner on the 15th.

Hats off to Dina Rose and Art Partners for last Saturday’s successful chinese auction. Special thanks to all the local businesses for their donations and support, without which the event could never have happened. All proceeds will go to art scholarships and art projects at school and throughout the community.

Just a reminder: College Night for junior parents will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, in the MHS library at 7 p.m. Information will be presented about all aspects of the college search, selection and application process.
