Robert J. DiCandia of Laurel died Feb. 11 at the age of 48, following a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

He was born in October 1963 to Frank and Connie DiCandia of Laurel. According to his father, “Bob fought a courageous 5 1/2-year battle against the ravages of ALS, and giving up was never an option for him.”

In addition to his father, Mr. DiCandia is survived by his companion, Christine Hoffken; his former wife, Roseanne; his children, Robert Jr., Rachel and Thomas; his brothers, Greg and Peter; and his sister, Debra Inghingolo. He was predeceased by his mother and his brother Frank.

The family received friends Feb. 13 at Brueggemann Funeral Home and a service was held Feb. 14 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, both in East Northport. Cremation was private. A memorial is planned for a future date.
