Mattituck junior Tomasz Filipkowski went 2-1 on the first day of the Division II New York State Championship Friday to continue his season one more day.

Filipkowski is one win away from securing an all-state finish and getting himself onto the podium at 170 pounds. He would need two wins Saturday to wrestle for third/fourth at Times Union Center in Albany.

Filipkowski faced a difficult first-round matchup against undefeated Troy Seymour of Peru. Seymour won 7-2, knocking Filipkowski to the wrestlebacks.

He came back to beat Isaiah Blake and Mike Green in the wrestlebacks.

Eighth-grader Lucas Webb lost his first-round match at 99 against Luis Weirbach of Hoosick Falls, 11-0. He bounced back to win his first wrestleback, 5-0, against Tanner Lapiene for his first career victory at the state level. He dropped his next match, 6-0, against Joe Dillion of Nanuet to end his season.

Junior Chris Baglivi lost 12-2 in the first round against Ben Perry of Saranac at 152. He also bounced back to win his next match, a 6-5 decision over Miguel Perez of Eagle Academy. His next match ended in a first-period pin against Tyler Smith of Midlakes.
