Sections of Main and First top the Greenport paving wishlist

Cruising downtown may become a smoother ride this summer if the Greenport Village Board approves paving projects that have lingered over the past few years.

The plan includes patching areas of roadway scattered throughout the village, including the heavily damaged stretch of road on First Street between North and Broad streets. Village Administrator David Abatelli said bumpy sections of Main and First streets remain at the top of the list.

“We have streets we know we want to pave,” he said. “It’s just figuring the cost and prioritizing.”

In addition to roadwork, the proposed plan includes sidewalk repair. Mr. Abatelli decline to say how much the total project would cost because the village is in the process of sending it out to bid. That process is expected to conclude this month. Last year, the village spent about $100,000 on roadwork, he said.

Once approved, construction could start as early as next month.
