Cops: Unlicensed driver took mom’s car out for a spin

A Greenport woman called the cops on her 26-year-old son after he took her car for a drive without her permission Sunday afternoon, Southold Town Police said.

Teresa Sutherland, 46, told police her son Branden Sutherland took her 1995 Mercury Mystique without her permission.

Mr. Sutherland, who police say does not have a license, returned the car to the house on Bridge Street, only to find police officers there.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation.
