Good Samaritans pull Laurel crash victim from burning truck

Several people who heard a truck strike a tree along Peconic Bay Boulevard in Laurel Sunday afternoon pulled the driver to safety after the vehicle caught fire, Southold Police said.

Donald Fox, 52, of Speonk was eastbound on the boulevard when the 1987 Dodge pickup left the roadway and struck a tree just before 4 p.m., police said. After hearing the accident, James Murray, 53, who lives nearby, raced to the scene with several bystanders and pulled Mr. Fox from the burning truck, according to reports.

The Mattituck Fire Department extinguished the blaze and brought Mr. Fox to Peconic Bay Medical Center, said police.
