Restoration of the long abandoned former Mill Creek Inn and Marina on Route 25 in Southold is moving forward.
On Monday the town Planning Board accepted an application for site plan review, an approval a former owner lacked when the old restaurant was replaced with a new building in 2005.
That former owner, Principi Properties, received a stop work order for several building permit violations and citations from the Town Trustees for installing docks without permits at the time, according to town officials. The company also was ordered to redo some dock work in 2007.
According to the Trustees, 20 to 40 boat slips had been added by various owners over a 15-year period, all without approvals.
The property was purchased last year by Mill Creek Partners LLC, led by Cutchogue builder Eugene Burger, for $2.47 million.
In addition to Planning Board approval, the project needs a number of wetlands permits from the Trustees. That panel has scheduled a public hearing for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, for a variety of improvements, including replacing the current concrete seawall with a stone veneer and pedestrian entry staircase, guard rails along bay side of the gravel driveway, installing drainage systems within the gravel driveway, lighting, bulkheads and underground utilities, as well as constructing a 290-square-foot dock master/marina building atop an existing deck on the eastern part of the property.
A handicapped accessible ramp to the dock is also planned, along with maintenance dredging of the boat basin and southerly channel outward into the bay.
