Jean Koke Holman

Jean Koke Holman of St. Simons Island, Ga., died there April 10, 2012. The former Southold resident was 87 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 20, 1924, to George and Georgia (Marshall) Pettit, she was a graduate of St. Petersburg Junior College.

While a resident here, Jean was a member and past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and belonged to the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary (Southold-Peconic Branch), the Suffolk Heart Association and the Minnepaug Club.

She enjoyed golfing and was a past-president of the North Fork Women’s Golf Association and the Tuesday Club and was a golf champion of the North Fork Country Club 9 Holers. She also enjoyed playing bridge.

In Georgia, she was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by two husbands, Fred Koke and William Holman, she leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Alexander and Ryck Koke of Southold; three grandchildren: Garrett (Lauryn) Koke of Lloyd Harbor, Michael (Jennifer) Koke of Southold and Tracey Koke Melvin (Christopher) of Manhasset; and great-grandchildren Camryn, Mackenzie, Peyton, Logan, Sienna and Alex Koke and Whitney and Christopher Melvin.

The family received friends April 16 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Graveside services took place April 17 at Southold Presbyterian Cemetery, the Rev. Peter Kelley officiating.
