Former Mattituck resident Helen Hansen of Fort Myers, Fla., died April 15 at the age of 84.

Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Brooklyn to Carl and Emilie (Turks) Volk, she was an administrative assistant at New York Life Insurance Company in New York City.

In Fort Myers, Ms. Hansen was a Pink Ladies volunteer at Lee Memorial Hospital and a congregant of Buckingham Presbyterian Church. She lived at St. Vincent de Paul Assisted Living Facility for a number of years, then moved to Springwood Court. Friends said she was very loving and caring  toward both humans and animals, especially cats.

She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Roy Hansen, in 1983.

Visiting hours will take place Thursday, April 19, at 5 p.m. at National Cremation & Burial Society in Fort Myers, followed at services at 7 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Lee County.
