‘Peeping Tom’ suspect surrenders to police
A Greenport man wanted on a charge of looking into the windows of a First Street residence earlier this month turned himself in Saturday morning, police reported.
James Lawrence, 35, was wanted on a Town Justice Court arrest warrant on a charge of criminal trespass, third degree. He was released on his on recognizance and is to return to court at a later date.
He previously served jail time for public lewdness after reportedly exposing himself on several occasions.
In 2010 he was indicted on a felony charge of second-degree burglary and public lewdness after reportedly exposing himself to two girls, ages 11 and 15. He was accused of breaking into a Main Street, Greenport, residence, going to the window and exposing himself to the girls in a house across the street.
Police said he got the girls’ attention by whistling and throwing pebbles at their window.
