Town to hold hearing on Pipes Cove open space purchase

The Southold Town Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 22, at 4:30 p.m. on the acquisition of a 10.38-acre property on Pipes Neck Road in Greenport for $550,000, to be paid through the Community Preservation Fund.

The town and preservation groups have been buying up land around Pipes Cove for a greenbelt.

The project is eligible for a 50 percent grant toward the purchase price and acquisition costs from the New York Sate Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

According to the proposal, the property may be used for a nature preserve and a passive recreational area.
