Baseball: Southold to face Pierson/Bridgehampton in finals

If the Southold baseball team is to win a Suffolk County championship this year, it will need to do something that no other team has been able to do this year: take two games from League IX champion Pierson/Bridgehampton.

Southold (13-7) and Pierson/Bridgehampton (18-2) will face each other in a best-of-three series to determine the Suffolk Class C champion. According to the playoff bracket that was released by Section XI on Monday, the series will start next Monday at Pierson/Bridgehampton’s home field at Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor. Game 2 of the series will be played at Southold High School on Wednesday, May 23. A third game, if necessary, will be played in Sag Harbor on Thursday, May 24. The starting times for all three games are 4 p.m.

Southold, which finished the regular season in third place in League IX, is responsible for one of Pierson/Bridgehampton’s two losses, an 8-4 result on April 21. That was the most recent of the four regular-season meetings between the teams. The Whalers took the first three games by the scores of 16-8, 13-4 and 3-0.
