Brookhaven man arrested following Riverhead robbery

Detectives investigating a Riverhead robbery Saturday night in which a man was reportedly beaten and robbed and knifepoint arrested a 19-year-old Brookhaven man who had the victim’s cell phone in his vehicle, according to Riverhead Town police.

The 25-year-old male victim said he was jumped on Union Avenue in Riverhead at about 10 p.m. Saturday by four men wearing masks, according to police.

The victim said two of the men, armed with knives, robbed him of his Boost Mobile cell phone and $250 cash. He told police one of the men put a knife to his throat while the others punched him in the face and kicked him in the legs and back, according to police.

Detectives were told that a red 1998 BMW was used by the suspects, and that car was located a short time later on Hamilton Street in Riverhead.

Andre Grant, 19, of Ridge Haven in Brookhaven was standing by the car, said police. He was detained for further questioning because the victim’s cell phone was located in Mr. Grant’s car, according to police.

Mr. Grant was take to headquarters and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and his car was impounded.

No other arrests have yet been made.
