VIDEO: Solar-powered water heater installed at Riverhead dairy farm

JENNIFER GUSTAVSON PHOTO | To heat water for a milk bottle washer, the Wines family has installed solar thermal collectors on a barn roof at their Ty Llwyd Farm on Sound Avenue in Riverhead.

There’s a farm in Riverhead that’s the only place on Long Island where you can buy raw cow’s milk. And now, it also has a brand-new solar-powered water heater to wash the milk bottles.

Ty Llwyd Farm on Sound Avenue installed an evacuated tube solar thermal collector in the fall to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and increase energy savings.
