Margaret Szczepanik

Margaret Szczepanik of Riverhead died June 9 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 93.

She was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to John and Pauline (Gasir) Trzeciakowski.

Ms. Szczepanik worked as a cottage monitor at Little Flower Children and Family Services in Wading River until her retirement in 1981. She was co-president of the resident council at Westhampton Care Center, where she had lived for four years.

She enjoyed activities at the Riverhead Senior Center, loved to play cards and bingo and was good at telling jokes.

Predeceased by her husband, Edwin, in 2001, she is survived by her son, Dr. Edwin Szczepanik of Orlando, Fla.; her daughter, Bernice Phillips of Mattituck; and her sister, Elizabeth Bolanowski of California. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Brian E. Phillips of Mattituck, Bob Phillips of Peconic, Edwin Szczepanik of Orlando, Fla., and Dr. Michelle Szczepanik of Augusta, Ga.; and her great-grandson, Brian R. Phillips of Nesconset, N.Y.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, June 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be offered Friday, June 15, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
