Hulling night began with a bang as all the strawberries were prepared for the weekend within two hours last night. The rest of the evening was filled with daiquiris, short cake, tons of carnival rides and games for all, as well as a fireworks display.

“Tonight is kind of like a thank you to everyone who helped out,” said Mattituck Lion’s Club past president, Dr. Phil Centonze, to a WLNG correspondent after hulling was completed under the festival’s main tent.

The Dutch Wheel ferris wheel ties together more than 15 rides, including the Sizzler, Tornado, and Avalanche, at this weekend’s festival. Carnival games, food booths and tents containing clothing, jewelry and other items for sale are also peppered throughout the grounds.

Fireworks will again take place at 9 p.m. tonight.

This year’s strawberry queen will be crowned at 3 p.m. Saturday on the main stage. Fathers get free admission to the festival and rides on Father’s Day with a paid child.
