Police: A number of thefts, break-ins reported on the North Fork

The thieves who broke into a Greenport eatery on the night of June 9 face burglary and criminal mischief charges, according to police.

Police said the business closed at 8:30 p.m. and the following morning the rear door was found pried open.

Police said this is the second time the business has been broken into.

• Police are investigating the thefts of portable GPS units from a number of cars in Cutchogue and Mattituck last Thursday night. All the vehicles were unlocked. Another unlocked vehicle in Cutchogue had a Southold Town beach sticker and a state registration taken from it on the evening of June 15, according to police.

• A Laurel woman told police that three kayaks, valued at $900, had been stolen from her yard last week.

Those named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
