Levittown man arrested for hit-and-run accident in Peconic

A Levittown man was arrested Tuesday after leaving the scene of a car accident that occurred on Route 25 in Peconic, Southold Town Police said.

Keith Whitenack, 36, made a left turn onto Route 25 at about 3:45 p.m. and crashed into a vehicle driven by Peconic resident Christine Watts-Gorman, officials said. Ms. Watts-Gorman was traveling westbound, police said.

Mr. Whitenack reportedly fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended by police.

No injuries were reported.

Mr. Whitenack was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield while making a left turn, police said.

The suspect was transported to police headquarters, processed and released on bail, officials said.
