Oysterponds to discuss teacher, secondary school contracts tonight

The Oysterponds Board of Education will hold a special tonight at the elementary school in Orient.

Board president Deborah Dumont said that after the meeting starts at 7 p.m., the board will vote on a few resolutions and then will enter into executive session to discuss both teacher and secondary school contracts.

Following its executive session, the school board could announce if agreements have been reached in those negotiations, Ms. Dumont said.

No other details were immediately available.

For the past year, the school board has been ironing out a new teacher’s contract to replace the agreement that expired last June 30.

The Oysterponds district, which operates a K-6 program, currently sends its secondary students to neighboring Greenport. Once a secondary school contract is finalized, it will be put before Orient and East Marion residents in a referendum.

Check back tonight for an update.
