Carol Lee Taylor

Carol Lee Taylor died July 10, 2012, following a brief illness. She was 78 years old and lived in Orient.

Carol grew up in Bedford, New York, and graduated from Chatham Hall in Virginia before entering Vassar College. While at Vassar, she joined the G Stringers, a popular all-girl singing group that made an appearance on the Arthur Godfrey Show.

Carol’s first job was at Time, Inc. in New York City, but her career really took off during her more than 25-year tenure at the National Audubon Society. As director of film and media, she wrote, directed and produced several award-winning environmental films and highly regarded public service announcements.

After retiring to Orient, Carol put her expertise to work participating in various fundraising events to benefit North Fork Women for Women Fund. In 1998 she founded The Narrow River Singers, an all-women chorus that continues to perform annual spring concerts in March at Poquatuck Hall.

Carol spent many happy hours on the beach at Orient State Park monitoring endangered piping plovers. In her own backyard, she used her considerable talents as a gardener and excellent birdwatcher to create a magical habitat not only for birds but for the many important friends in her life.

Carol is survived by her brother, Winfield Taylor Jr.; three nieces, Nancy Lynn Jaffer, Frances Alvino and Joanne Jaffer; and her beloved cats, Tiger and Lily.

A memorial service will be held at Orient Beach State Park on Saturday, August 11, at 9 a.m.
